THe TECHNICAL EMPLOYEES OF ge hYDRO JOIN THE DISTICT 11 OF THE IAMAW. |
|
September 11, 2006 Satisfied with the services received during the last 3 years, the salaried technical employees of GE Hydro decided to join the Local Lodge 1660 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW). The service agreement between the Technical Association of GE Hydro (an independent union) and the district 11 had a procedure to facilitate the process for the technical employees to join the IAM. The support given by the district during the last 3 years in defense of the member’s right was a major factor in making the decision to join the Machinists Union. The production employees of GE Hydro are already represented by the Local Lodge 1660 of the IAM so it was a logical choice for these 39 new members to join. We wish them all welcome. By regrouping their strength to ours, they will now be more equipped to negotiate the next collective agreement. The district 11 business representative, Yves Raymond who was in charge of servicing them will again drive the negotiation to renew the current collective agreement that will expire on September 30th 2006. The IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America represents more than 700 000 members and is responsible to administer more than 5 000 contracts in transportation, aerospace, woodworking, manufacturing and defense related industries.
