May 26 and 27, the 1st «Salon des carrières en
aérospatiale au Québec » was held at the Mirabel Airport.
The IAMAW, with the financial help of District 11 and the participation of Local Lodges 712, 869 and 1758, was the only Union present at this event. Robert Miron, plater and Local Lodge 869 Secretary Treasurer declared: “This is very logical, we are the most important Aerospace Union in the world. This exhibition gave us the opportunity to discuss with many present and future workers of this Industry. They were especially attracted by the aerospace brochure which demonstrated the professionalism of our organization. It is the list indicating the salary rates negotiated by the IAM in different aerospace companies in Canada which interested most of the visitors to know much more about our organization”. In
addition to the brochure especially developed for this occasion, the
Union Representatives have given IAM’s organizing leaflets and DVDs.
Gérald Tremblay, IAMAW Aerospace Coordinator and Co-president at the
CAMAQ (Centre d’adaptation de la main d’oeuvre aérospatiale du
Québec) wants to thank Hélène Fréchette, Sylvain Talon, Pierre
Gonzalez, Robert Miron, Pierre Grenier and Sylvain Morin for the
quality of their participation at the IAMAW’s stand. Tremblay
declared: “I am convinced that we will get positive results from
this public relations campaign and that we should receive calls from
workers who will desire to become members of our Union.” The set-up of this event is in response of the aerospace industry survey’s results done by CAMAQ on the number of jobs available in 2006 and on the few inscriptions in specialized training schools. Tremblay reveals that: “We had to organize a big event to attract young people to make a career in this industry and to facilitate the steps for those who are looking for a job or who are at a point of reorientation of their career.” We are evaluating to some 20 000 CVs the number of demands to aerospace exhibitors enterprises at this event. Bravo to CAMAQ and “Emploi Québec” who are the organizers and sponsors for this 1st “Salon des carrières en aérospatiale”. |
